In this Oaxaca City travel guide, I share all my favorite spots. I hope they are useful for your upcoming trip, let me know in the comments!
I love Oaxaca. It is my second favorite state in Mexico, after my home state of Baja California. I only visited Oaxaca a few times while growing up, but in 2021, I had the opportunity to spend one month in the city of Oaxaca. During that time, my goal was to eat at every restaurant I could afford and simply live a normal life.
I have put together this Oaxaca City travel guide covering all the restaurants I was able to try, the nightlife that I enjoyed the most, and, of course, some absolute must-sees of the region.
Since my stay, a few years have passed, and I’m sure there are many new post-pandemic businesses that have emerged. If you think there’s anything that deserves a spot in the guide, I would really appreciate the recommendation!

Recommended Activities
I highly recommend a few tours that showcase some of my favorite activities in the region. Oaxaca is renowned for its gastronomic identity, so you absolutely must take a cooking class. I had a fantastic time doing this with a big group of friends.
Another unforgettable experience is visiting Hierve el Agua. It’s one of those places you’ll be talking about for the rest of your life. However, the road to get there is quite challenging, especially for those with weak stomachs. To ease any anxieties you may have about venturing up the mountain, I suggest visiting with a guide who knows the area well. They can make the journey much smoother and enjoyable.
