In this video, come along with me as I take you on a 24-hour journey to the island of Miyajima. Just one hour off the coast of Hiroshima by ferry, the island is known for its floating shrines, thriving oyster industry, and lush natural scenery.
Known as “The Island of Gods,” Miyajima is renowned for its iconic floating torii gate, a majestic structure standing in the waters of Hiroshima Bay. Belonging to the Itsukushima Shrine, this gate appears suspended during high tide, creating a picturesque and ethereal scene. The island’s lush, mountainous terrain provides ideal opportunities for hiking and exploration, offering breathtaking views of the Seto Inland Sea. Friendly wild deer roam freely, interacting with island guests. Beyond its natural beauty, Miyajima possesses a rich cultural heritage, with historic temples, shrines, and traditional ryokans offering a glimpse into Japan’s past.
As is common in much of Japan, the island’s tourism heavily centers around food. The narrow streets of the island feature food stalls showcasing local seafood, with a particular emphasis on the local oysters. These delicacies can be savored in various forms—fresh, deep-fried, grilled, battered—providing a diverse culinary experience.

Hotel Miyajima Villa
While many tourists opt for a quick day trip, our decision to extend our stay overnight allowed us to indulge in the comfort of the beautiful Hotel Miyajima Villa. Among the island’s many hotels, this establishment is a classic choice. Conveniently located in front of the Ferry Station, it provides the perfect accessibility to come and go. The hotel’s Onsen offers the most stunning views of the ocean, making it all worth the overnight stay.
